Various in-situ gelling systems for ocular use were evaluated for their rheological behavior, spreading ability, irritation potential and microstructure. All tested systems exhibited physically entangled polymer networks, showed good spreading abilities when compared to an aqueous solution and were found to be non-irritant when tested using the HET-CAM test.
