The Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) through a partnership with theBoeing Company has co-developed a continuing education program targeted atclosing a competency gap in the Boeing workforce. The Boeing Company isincreasingly using advanced composite material in the design of products like the787 Dreamliner. The OIT-Boeing Composite Certificate Program was developed toprovide Boeing employees with a foundation in composite materials,manufacturing, design and analysis. The Composite Certificate Program is targetedat manufacturing, tooling and quality engineers seeking to enhance theirunderstanding of composite materials and to improve their skills as they transitionto new assignments. This paper will describe the OIT-Boeing CompositeCertificate Program and the partnership that is enabling Boeing to enhance the skillsof a specific segment of the workforce.
