In its nanostructured form, inorganic materials like molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) and tungsten disulphide (WS2) have shown exceptional tribological properties. This paper will discuss the tribological behavior of novel, deagglomerated and active MoS2 nanoparticles as additives in paraffin oil. MoS2 nanoparticles were activated by their intercalation with organic molecules, particularly triglycerides (canola oil) and lecithin. A four-ball tribological test setup was used to measure the wear scar diameter, coefficient of friction and extreme pressure properties (ASTM D4172 and ASTM D2783) of such formulated paraffin oils.
