Full-scale test was performed on board Soya, an icebreaking patrol ship of Japan Coast Guard (JCG), in the ice-covered Sea of Okhotsk. In the test local ice loads acting on the hull was measured. Observation of ice conditions including ice thickness and concentration was also performed. Data was divided into segments of 2km in length. The maximum ice load, average ice concentration and effective ice thickness are calculated as representative values for each segment. To study the effects of ice concentration on the ice load, ice load data in narrow ice thickness ranges were picked out and plotted against ice concentration. The plot showed an increase trend of ice load with ice concentration.
