We investigate numerically, by means of the time-and frequency-domain method, the electromagnetic propagation characteristics of the metallic and silicon nanowires. The time-domain, FDTD, is easily suitable to model the dispersive media of the metallic nanostructures in the wide range of frequencies while the frequency-domain could be used to study the semiconductor nanowires where the dispersive model is inefficient to represent the dielectric constant of nanowires. The gold nanowires and silicon nanowires are examined to illustrate their abilities.
