On-line monitoring and control of particle shape and size distribution isimportant in pharmaceutical and fine chemical manufacturing. In this paper, wedescribe a methodology for real-time estimation of particle quality variablesduring crystallization using inline process video-images. Our approachintegrates image analysis techniques with multivariate statistical techniques toquantify particle shape and size. This information can then be used for processmonitoring and control. In this work, we demonstrate applications to systemswith high particle concentration.
