Motorcycles appear to be the dominant mode of transport in most of the developing countries. In Malaysia, the motorcycle constitutes 47% of the total vehicle population and at the same time also consistently contributes around 60% of the traffic fatalities over the years. As an economic and popular mode of transport among the people, the risk of motorcyclist in getting involved in an accident is similar to other mode of transport. However the severity is much higher compared to others. Exposures have also been found playing significant role in motorcyclist traffic safety. The study aims to understand the different travel pattern among motorcyclists between urban and rural areas and to identify the underlying factors to motorcycle crashes. Self-completion questionnaire survey was chosen as the data collection method. A total of 1526 samples responded to this study. The important variables have been analyzed using Logistic Regression model to identify the significant attributes. Non-parametric analyses like Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis have been used to compare the travel pattern between demographic groups. This study found that there were significant difference between demographic characteristics and exposure measure (i.e distance and time travelled, number of trips). Different age groups travel difference distances and spend time on the road differently. Motorcyclist in urban and rural areas shows a notable difference in their travel pattern.
