Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with certain diameter in forest form were synthesized by delicately controlling catalyst formation process. The catalyst size can be decreased by fewer collisions when less catalyst precursor was introduced into the reactor. The iron nanoparticles sintering can be decreased by low temperature growth. The average diameter has been decreased from 41.0 nm to 10.9 nm by decreasing the catalyst precursor feeding and growth temperature. High purity CNT forests with thinner wall were obtained by simple floating catalyst process.
