The characterization of pulse-jet cleaning of ceramic filter elements was investigated in a bench unit consisting of four commercial filter elements. Traces of the transient pressure around the nozzle and the overpressures in the filter cavities were measured during the pulse-jet cleaning to estimate the pulse cleaning effect for the change of different parameters. During the injection of the pulse cleaning gas, it was observed that the negative pressure zone was formed around the nozzle while the positive pressure was formed in the filter cavity. The convergent nozzle displayed better cleaning performance than the straight one. In order to optimize the nozzle design, the effects of diameter, convergent angle, and convergent length of the pulse nozzle were determined on the condition that minimized the pulse gas consumption and maximized the entrainment effect.
