Vehicle Component Test for Durability in Consideration of Actual Running Environment

In vehicle component test for durability, it is very important that the dynamic strain distribution of the component at specific area should be the same when the component is assembled into total vehicle and operated under actual running environment. But the boundary condition of the component during component test is usually free-free or fixed because of easy practice and consequently the dynamic strain distribution is different from that under actual running environment. Therefore the strain distribution sensitivity approach is so proposed as to modify the original strain distribution of the component under free-free condition into the objective one. In order to extend the ordinary displacement amplitude sensitivity approach with respect to mass modification, first the strain-displacement conversion matrix, which is constant, can be determined experimentally and then the appropriate part to add masses can be predicted to achieve the objective strain distribution. After verification on simple numerical and experimental model, the proposed approach is successfully applied to an actual muffler component.
