The Ormen Lange Onshore Processing Plant, on Norway's west coast is the processing unit for the gas from the Ormen Lange field in the Norwegian Sea. The project carried out by Hydro as operator for the development phase is the largest industrial project in Norway covering an area of 900 000 m2 with a total project cost of 10 billion US$. Since there are a number of private dwellings surrounding the plant, strict noise limits have been set by the Authorities to reduce the community noise impact. Due to early involvement and genuine interest by Company and Contractor the strict community noise limits were early in the pre-engineering phase converted to equipment noise limits and these have been strictly followed up throughout the project. If necessary, noise reducing measures have been implemented by vendor. The vendor noise guarantees and measurement results have been used to simulate the community noise level that may be experienced after start-up of the plant. One year before this happens a good margin is still being maintained. Verification noise measurements will be performed during start-up and operation of the plant. The operation noise will be compared to Project noise limits and background noise measurements.
