The method involves irradiating the plants in a target sector with multi-spectral artificial light, and using an optical sensor to continuously monitor the lighted plants during cultivation period. The detection signals are fed into an evaluation and signal processing unit which constantly measures the supply of water and nutrient to the plants and provides the control value for the irrigation system to ensure optimum supply of water and nutrients to the plants. Lack or surplus of water and nutrients is determined based on the changes in the spectrum of light reflected from the plants. Fluorescent light in infrared spectrum close to 2000 nanometers is irradiated to the plants. The irrigation system includes lines (5), valves (6,7), irrigation hoses (3), spray nozzles, pumps (9), containers for nutrients, and sensors for supplying the water and nutrients for the plants. The irradiated light is reflected from the plants towards the evaluation and signal processing unit. Changes in the spectrum of reflected light are used to determine changes on chlorophyll and water contents of the plant based on predetermined evaluation and algorithm biophysical parameters. An independent claim is also included for the device for providing required water and nutrients for cultured and horticulture plants in greenhouses or open lands.
