Proposal of Recycling Strategy for PET Bottles as Business Wastes in Japan

This study focused on PET bottles as business wastes. There are problems that quantity of collection of PET bottles as business wastes is very small because PET bottles as business wastes might be exported, incinerated, or landfilled. Another problem is that specified business entities have little incentive to reduce production of PET bottles. Therefore, this study proposed a recycling strategy of PET bottles including PET bottles as business waste from view of extended producer responsibility and reduction of burden of local municipalities for collection of PET bottles. As a result, increase in recycling ratio of PET bottles would be expected.
