SPECIALIST PEDIATRIC CARDIOLOGY ADVICE BY TELEMEDICINE

A telemedicine service has been set up between a Specialist Centre and four district hospitals for the provision of specialist pediatric cardiology consultations for out patients. ISDN-6 technology was used and during the consultations there were provisions for the viewing of echocardiograms, radiographs, ECGs and for an electronic stethoscope to be used. During the fourteen month study, there were 86 consultations with patient management changes in 44 (55%).
