The decoration of silver particles has been accomplished in the nanometer-sized on the activated surface of non-oxidizedsingle-walled carbon naotubes (SWCNTs) by a simple electroless plating method. In this work, only Sn ions were used onsensitization and activation as catalyzed-sites for the deposition of silver nanoparticles. HRTEM and XPS were conducted tostudy for deposition of silver nanoparticles on surface of carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Our method consists of the modificationof CNTs with Sn2+ ions and reduction of Ag+ ions into elemental Ag onto surface of CNTs-Sn4+. Finally, silver nanoparticlesconstituted heterogeneously on the activated-CNTs surface, extraordinary, in a range of 5 ± 2 nm in diameter. This resultpromises the decoration of other noble metals such as platinum, ruthenium, and palladium on the surface of CNTs.
