The Proposition Bank (PropBank) projectis aimed at creating a corpus of text annotatedwith information about semanticpropositions. The second phase ofthe project, PropBank II adds additionallevels of semantic annotation which includeeventuality variables, co-reference,coarse-grained sense tags, and discourseconnectives. This paper presents the resultsof the parallel PropBank II project,which adds these richer layers of semanticannotation to the first 100K of the ChineseTreebank and its English translation. Ourpreliminary analysis supports the hypothesisthat this additional annotation reconcilesmany of the surface differences betweenthe two languages.
