U-Tube Wells – Connecting Horizontal Wells End to EndCase Study: Installation and Well Construction of the World’s First U-Tube Well

Although wellbores have been intersected before — boththrough planned intersections for the purpose of well controland through unplanned wellbore collisions — they have notbeen intersected for the purpose of actually joining theirwellpaths to effectively create one smooth continuous conduitfrom one surface location to another. There is just oneexception: the very large conduit between England andFrance! The purpose of this paper is to review the planningand execution of what is believed to be the world’s firstplanned successful joining of two such horizontal wells, with aslotted liner to casing connection in between them.
