Modal Characteristics of Clamped-Clamped Beams and Plates: A study of Transition from Beam-like to Plate-like Behaviour
This paper is a study of the transition from beam-like to plate-like behaviour in the free vibration of clamped-clamped beams and plates. This was achieved by using the finite element method to compute the frequency parameters of clamped–clamped beam-plates of fixed lengths, variable breadths, and aspect ratios (length/breadth) which varied from 0.25 to 20.0. From the (FE) results generated, graphs of frequency parameter versus symmetric mode number were produced from which the transitions between beam-like and plate-like behaviour were identified. These were used to produce transition curves which delineate the regions between beam-like and plate-like behaviour.
