For every well drilled, there is a performanceexpectation. At a minimum, there is a forecasted Pi,initial production rate, and time to payout. When thewell’s production does not meet expectations, it iscommon to wonder whether the problem is the reservoir,the completion, or the wellbore. Answering thesequestions quickly, accurately, and inexpensively isdifficult enough with single-zone completions; however, ithas been virtually impossible for wells with commingledproduction. Historically, even simple wells defiedrigorous investigation without costly and time-consumingpressure buildup analysis. To determine the criticalcharacteristics that dictate a well’s performance, a non-intrusivemethod is necessary. When employed withrobust, post frac, drawdown production analysis, theChemical tracer technology unlocks the keys tounderstanding important reservoir parameters in singleand multiple zone completions.Several Barnett Shale well case histories will bepresented to demonstrate the application of thismethodology. These case histories illustrate the value ofbeing able to allocate production to individual zones inBarnett Shale wells with commingled production.
