EFFECT OF AIR CURTAIN ON THE EFFICIENCY OF RANGE HOOD

A new developed range hood is equipped with an air curtain at the front panel in order to prevent the oily smoke from leaking out and improve the operating condition of cooks. To study the effect of the air curtain,Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method is used and two factors of the air curtain are considered, the speed and angle of the jet. Concentration of the containment is used as the criterion. It's found that air curtain could increase the freshness of the air near people's face and increase the total leakage at the same time; speed and angle contribute to the effect of air curtain independently. Finally a combination of speed and angle which has the best operation condition and less total leakage is selected after considered all the possible combinations.
