Storage potentials in the deeper subsurface of the Central German North Sea

Based on depth, thickness and Jithological criteria, areas with favorable reservoir and barrier rock units for subsurface storage (e.g. renewable energy, COV) have been mapped in the Central German North Sea region. Results were compiled in maps with information on depth, thickness and spatial distribution, complemented by additional reservoir geologic information (e.g. lithological parameters) and discussed in a regional geological context. Investigated reservoir rock units comprise the Upper Rotliegend, the Middle Buntsandstein, the Upper Keuper and the Middle Jurassic. Investigated barrier rock units include fee Zechstein, the Upper Buntsandstein, the Lower Jurassic and the Lower Cretaceous. Based on criteria used, the rock units Upper Rotliegend and Middle Buntsandstein (reservoirs) as well as Zechstein, Upper Buntsandstein and Lower Cretaceous (barriers) generally provide prospective units in large parts of the study area.
