In order to investigate whether it is desirable to implement carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and storage (CCS) in saline aquifers or CO2 plume geothermal (CPG) power plants, we identified favorable locations for both technologies in Louisiana, Wyoming, and Colorado. To do so, we considered the estimated CO2 storage capacity of the saline aquifers, the estimated levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) from a CPG power plant, and the locations of stationary CO2 sources. We identified two sites in Louisiana and three sites in Wyoming for further consideration. In future research, these locations will be used in an engineering-economic, geospatial-optimization model to assess integrated networks for CO2 storage in saline aquifers and CPG systems.
