Composites consisting of Mg_2Ni and ZrV_(0.5)Ni_(1.5) were synthesized by mechanical alloying(MA) and Spark Plasma Sintering(SPS). Mg_2Ni, a major component having good hydrogen storage properties, and ZrV_(0.5)Ni_(1.5), a minor component having good corrosion resistance, were selected. The composites were identified using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical behavior was measured with a Maccor series 4000. It was observed that the surface of the Mg_2Ni electrode was modified by ZrV_(0.5)Ni_(1.5) secondary phase. As a result, the cycle life of the Mg_2Ni composite was improved.
