HOKKAIDO SATELLITE PROJECT: CALCULATION OF THEECONOMIC EFFECTS INDUCED BY SMALL SATELLITES BUSINESS

This report is a quantitative analysis of the extentto which Hokkaido Satellite is responsible directlyand indirectly for supporting various industries inJapan. Hokkaido Satellite is a small satellitedeveloped, designed, and manufactured in Hokkaido."One satellite-One mission" is a project'sfundamental policy (in this case agricultural fields)and will allow the satellite manufacture to realizeunprecedented low cost and short delivery time,which ultimately benefits the users.The economic impacts of the Hokkaido Satellitewere calculated using Input-Output tables for Japan[1]. The impacts quantified in this report were basedon data for the year 2000. Assuming that the cost ofmanufacturing and developing the HokkaidoSatellite was 8 hundred million yen, the directimpact was about 2.7 times, the indirect impact wasabout 2.7 times and induced impact was about 12.5times as much as initial cost.
