An experimental program has been carried outwherein ogive-nosed hardened steel projectile of15 mm diameter has been impacted on thinaluminium plates in sub-ordnance velocityrange. The response of the plates has beenstudied by varying impact velocity, platethickness and angle of obliquity. The observedvalues of the residual velocity and ballistic limitare presented. The response of the oblique plateis compared with the response of the plate innormal impact. Based on the mechanism ofdeformation, mathematical relation has beendeveloped for the determination of residualvelocity. The relation is seen to match theexperiment well.
