Heat transfer characteristics in cooling lying-bed ofpigs

Pigs have a capability of thermal regulation to maintain a homeostatic bodytemperature. An exquisite cooling lying-bed system with low temperature water (15∽18°C) forpigs under above 30°C environment temperature can serve the same purpose as theevaporation in sweating pigs. There were few data depicting about the pig heat loss to coolinglying-bed. This paper discusses the heat conduction characteristics of a cooling lying-bed madeof concrete. A model of heat transfer of pig cooling lying-bed was made to simulate the practicewhen pig laying on the bed, the surface temperature of bed and conductive heat werecalculated with different water inlet temperature. The results of experiments for lying-bed werecompared with calculations. The theoretic calculation results by heat conduct shape factorcoincide to the experimental results in most condition. The studies provided useful data forcooling system design.
