STAMP, or Systems Theoretic Accident Modeling and Process, has been used to model a variety of accidents including theWalkerton E-Coli outbreak and a friendly-fire shoot-down over Northern Iraq. In this paper, a method for employingSTAMP in hazard analysis is outlined. Practical guidelines are provided to direct the reader through a typical application ofSTAMP for hazard analysis. A STAMP-Based Hazard Analysis was performed in parallel with the typical design effort ofthe CSRL Spacecraft Mission, an example system developed and designed by the Complex Systems Research Laboratory atMIT. Excerpts from this hazard analysis are provided as a demonstration of the techniques described.
