Utilizing ceramic material—titanium dioxide semiconductor's property of degrading organic matter through photocatalysis, such material can find broad application in sewage water treatment and air cleaning. TiO_2 with nanometer dimensions prepared through nanotechnology has non-conventional characteristics: quantum size effect, surface and boundary effect and so on. This article discusses the effect and its mechanisms of surface nanometerized ceramic material on photocatalysis activity of TiO_2: visible improvement of photocatalysis activity when particle size is less than one critical value; quantum size effect of TiO_2 particle plays an important part here. Some of the latest applied examples of this technology are given. This technology is also a successful application of nanometer technology in practical domain.
