This paper will present an electrically mediated edge and surface finishing process for industrialparts. Electrical mediation controls the electrochemical surface finishing process throughadjustment of parameters such as on time and peak current or voltage of the electric field. Theadvantages of this approach over conventional chemically mediated electrochemical finishinginclude higher efficiency, the use of environmentally benign electrolytes, and control of oxidefilm formation. Results will be presented for edge and surface finishing of passive alloys, suchas titanium. Parts that will be discussed may include medical parts (including staples) as wellas specialized finishing of golf club heads.
