Three new aminocaboxylate-phosphonic acids, namely, N-(phosphonomethyl)-N-methyl glycine (MeN(CH_2CO_2H)(CH_2PO_3H_2), H_3L~1), N-(phosphonomethyl)-proline (H_3L~2) and N,N-bis(phosphonomethyl)aminoacetic acid ((H_2O_3PCH_2)_2NCH_2CO_2H, H_5L~3) have been prepared via a Manich type reaction. Hydrothermal reactions of metal salts with the above three ligands afforded ten novel inorganic-organic hybrid materials. Their structures range from microporous structure built from cluster units, to various 2D layered structures and hydrogen bonded layer structure with intercalation of ethylenediamines.
