OCULAR PERMEATION OF DEXAMETHASONE ESTERS 'IN VITRO' AND 'EX VIVO'

摘要

Dexamethasone and its 21-esters were assessed on organotypic conjunctival epithelial cultures, and whole explanted corneas. Permeation rates through both systems correlate with lipophilicity of the molecules. Permeation through the stroma, is also affected by susceptibility to hydrolysis of the ester bond. This work provides the basis to target the drug effectively.
