In order to predict vibratory behavior of complex assembled structures, accurate models of the junctions between sub-structures are required. Because of the junctions, out-of-plane and in-plane vibrations are coupled. With a wave approach, this coupling can be described with a scattering matrix, whose terms are interpreted as reflection, transmission and coupling coefficients. The objective of this paper is to present a specific measurement technique allowing us to determine the scattering matrix terms. This technique is developed and validated in the simple case of a beam with a discontinuity, which induces a coupling between bending and extensional waves.
