Hydrotropic polymers (Hytrops) and hydrotropic hydrogels(Hytrogels) were synthesized, and their abilities to increase theaqueous solubility of poorly soluble drugs were examined.Hytrops and Hytrogels have been synthesized based on thestructures of new, low molecular weight hydrotropic agents thatefficiently increase the solubility of poorly water-soluble drugs.The model poorly water-soluble drugs examined in this studywere paclitaxel, griseofulvin, and progesterone. Hytrops andHytrogels maintained hydrotropic properties of their monomericcounterparts. Hytrops and Hytrogels increased the watersolubility of the poorly-soluble drugs by several orders ofmagnitude.
