DUAL-MODE MODEL OF POST-DIPLOMA STUDIES IN THE FIELD OF COMMUNICATIONS

The Institute of Telecommunications has been organizing for many years various forms of courses, trainings and post-diploma studies in the field of telecommunication, electronics and computer science directed to the needs of telecommunication specia ists. The post-diploma studies, unlike other courses limited to 15 to 40 hours of lectures and practical training in the laboratory, are divided into two academic semesters including ten meetings. During the three-day meeting several lectures and laboratory sessions are organised. These meetings constitute altogether about 230 ― 260 hours of trainings. The participants are required to write a project to be presented during final examinations. In an attempt to lower the costs of studying, the Internet and multimedia-based model of education has been introduced. It was assumed that the reduction of session meetings by a half might lead to substantial cost savings, including travel costs and costs of accommodation. Accordingly, the fee will be lowered by 40%. Also, it has been taken into account that participants of the post-diploma studies are telecommunication workers, thus they have an easier access to the Internet and the ICT technology.
