SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS WITH OFF-GRID VILLAGE POWER SUPPLY SYSTEMS: CASE STUDIES FROM INDONESIA, SPAIN AND ARGENTINA

Different technologies and operational schemes have been developed to design and operate a village power supply system. Besides the technical implementation, we have detected that social aspects have a very powerful influence on the functioning of the PV village power supply system. Although we always promote an interdisciplinary approach which includes social, technical and economic actions, this presentation concentrates on the social part of our interventions, on the social integration aspect and the transformation process from a "normal village community" to a "solar community". It shows appropriate approaches concentrating on participation of all involved and basic ethical principles. Tools and categorisation schemes are shown, that partly can also applied by non-social experts. Basic rules are given, that ― when followed ― facilitate the integration and sustainable use of PV systems in rural communities.
