THE HYBRID-ELECTRIC FUEL CELL BUS - A CITY BUS OPTION

A hybrid-electric fuel cell bus using the 30’ "DASH" configuration has been developedand is presently in test. It uses compressed hydrogen fuel storage, advanced leadacidbatteries for electrical storage, and an atmospheric pressure fuel cell rated for 60kW operation. The hybrid concept allows energy recovery by regenerative brakingaction, and is well suited to "stop-and-go" city operation, while allowing cost reductiondue to the relatively small size of the fuel cell.
