This exploratory study uses stepwise regression analysis to identify the relationship between distinctive competencies and plant performance. The results indicate that only a few of the distinctive competencies significantly impact plant performance. The findings of this study are expected to help managers identify which specific distinctive competencies need to be achieved in order to excel in certain plant performance measures. Sensitivity analyses show that our findings are robust across countries and industries.
