On Performance of Buffer Caching Scheme in Video Applications with Looping References

There have been several buffer caching schemes for continuous media storage system. However, previous works only exploited the sequentiality of continuous media accesses and didn't consider looping references. In some video applications like foreign language learning, users can mark the scene as loop area and then automatically playback the scene several times. In this paper, we show through simulations that the previous buffer caching schemes can yield poor performance when video applications have looping references.
