Innovative Construction Means and Methods for the New Samuel De Champlain Bridge

The construction of the New Champlain Bridge has significant challenges: 1. Construction schedule 2. Navigation restrictions: The Seaway traffic must be maintained during the construction. This paper discusses the following innovative methods: i) Delivery system for the segments to the tip of the deck. ii) An assembly system to adjust the lifted segment and the tip of the deck. These erection systems were developed to expedite construction and to keep maintenance of shipping.
