Lloyds Shoals Headgate and Filler Valve Replacement

This paper describes the remedial action taken at the Lloyd Shoals hydroelectric plantto repair the dilapidated headgate system. Timber headgates and original cast iron fillervalves were replaced with fabricated steel headgates with neoprene seals and new caststeel filler valves. In addition, the original gate lifting mechanism was replaced with agantry crane. The leaky, potentially unsafe, hard to operate system was eliminated infavor of a good sealing, safe, user-friendly system.
