摘要

Applied mineralogical, geochemical, and geological research have contributed traditionally to the fields of mineral exploration, mining, and ore processing. However, a number of political, economical, technical and scientific changes, discoveries, and developments have modified these fields of study during the last decade. New deposit types, defined either by new metallogenetic models, by new economic constraints, or by new processing and recovery techniques require the attention of the applied scientist to remain up-to-date with these new developments. The exploration and mining community supports and utilises applied academic research willingly as long as its practical application is treated as a priority. Scientists active under the umbrella of ICAM are ideally suited to fulfil the criteria for successful near-industry research in the fields of mineral exploration and mining.
