MgO - C - bricks have gained acceptance as standard material for linings in BOF's, EAF's and ladles of steel industry. With increasing requirements to the brickwork the dolomite bricks having been in competition have nearly been replaced in the meantime due to lower efficiency. Generally there are two different ways of bonding MgO-C-bricks: pitch and phenolic resin. While in some parts of the world the pitch has lost its acceptance completely, first of all in Europe the tar-pitch-bonding is still in use to a certain extent, although there are major disadvantages concerning their environmental impact.
