ABOUT PEDESTRIAN INFORMATION ANDCOMMUNICATION SYSTEMS (PICS)

While Japan has seen an unparalleled rapid growth in its elderly population, the ratio of theweak in traffic such as the aged and the disabled to the total number of people involved intraffic accidents has been increasing year after year. It is our urgent task to secure safety andcomfortability for these people.For this reason, we at the National Police Agency (NPA), Japan have been pushing forwardthe development of Pedestrian Information and Communication Systems (PICS) , with theaim of providing proper information in a timely manner to promote the positive participationof these weak people in life in society as well as to ensure the securement of their safety andmobility at intersections.
