The high cost of gas atomized metal powders has limited the growth of the MIM industry in the past. MIM powders have been only by-products of making coarser powders. Thus, materials choice and powder quantity available have been restricted. Introducing the new WIDEFLOW melt film atomization technology (pat. pend.), direct production of ultrafine (10 μm) MIM powders at low cost is now reality for bulk powder quantities. The process is designed for large atomizing rates and low specific gas consumptions. A brought variety of materials - stainless, HSS, superalloys, intermetallics but also bronzes and precious metals can be made. With lower powder prices, MIM gains competitiveness for much heavier parts.
