OCEAN COLOR IN CONTEXT: OCEAN COLOR EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES AT THE GQDDARD EARTH SCIENCES DAAC

The primary responsibility of the Ocean Color Data Support Team (OCDST) at the Goddard Earth Sciences (GES) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) is maintaining the archive and distribution system for the current Sea-viewing Wide Field-of-view Sensor (SeaWiFS) mission and the historical Coastal Zone Color Scanner (CZCS) data set. The OCDST also maintains related ancillary data sets, including meteorological, atmospheric ozone, and surface solar irradiance data, and acts as a primary point of contact for inquiries regarding ocean color data access and utilization. The OCDST has undertaken an increasingly vital secondary responsibility - informing the public regarding applications of ocean color data. Several different sections on the OCDST's ocean color World Wide Web (WWW) site have been created to go beyond dataset documentation, aiming to provide educational resources that are useful, topical, informative and interesting. This paper discusses the complimentary data management and educational functions of the OCDST.
