In the article a energetic process model for the description of the melting behaviour of the cokeless natural gas fired cupola furnace (CLCF0 Fig. 1 is presented. The CLCF is a shaft furnace of countercurrent type. The hot flue gas flows upwards continuously throughthe charge column which is the disperse phase. In ordr to describe the melting in the stationary operted furnace, the furnace is modelled on the basis of a counter current heat-transfer problem. The heat transfer in the cupola shaft was regarded as a heat transfer between a solid bulk and a gas flow. For this the CLCF was divided in four consecutively switched zones,the preheating-, melting-, superheating zone and the combustion chamber. These define the different areas of the furnace with respect to heat transfer. In particular for the area fo the melting zone its was mecessary to represent the stock by a sitable model ball bulk.
