Mechanical joint is one of the most common, and the most effective, ways to reduce transmitted structure-borne sound and hence the radiated sound power. In order to increase the vibration transmission loss, damped joints are often used, which, in many cases, are based on adding different types of viscoelastic materials and will inevitably reduce the structure integrity and hence can only be used in limited situation.
