Poster Papers Grower Involvement in the Sustainability Debate

摘要

An SRDC-funded project on group extension in sustainable cane growing is in progress inthe Johnstone, Moresby and Liverpool Creek catchments of Far North queensland. Growers, with the aid of an extension officer, have catalogued their farming practices that they consider best. Eight groups of cane growers from different sections of the catchments considered all apsects of cane growing with the growers challenged to consider the sustainability of their techniques and take ownership for what they do. This ownership is expressed by their publishing their practices in a public domain booklet, which the State Minister for the Environment has agreed to launch.
