Efficiency and reliability are two essential elements in implementing safeguards policy.The IAEA has installed digital surveillance or remote monitoring (RM) systems at 8 of12 LWRs in operation since RM tasks with MSSP (Member State Support Program),"Implementation of RM at LWRs in the ROK" was agreed. RM as unattendedsurveillance could potentially be an alternative regime to fulfill safeguards tasks andfield trials were performed at Younggwang Unit 3 in Korea. This paper describes onsitepreparation work for the RM installation, data acquisition/transmossion andevaluation process, and its perspective on the national safeguards inspection in Korea.
