It is stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) found no indication of diversion ofdeclared nuclear material from peaceful nuclear activities, and no indication of undeclared nuclearmaterial or activities in the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the Safeguards Implementation Report (SIR)for 2007. The implementation of Integrated Safeguards (IS) in the ROK was started on 1 July 2008 inaccordance with the IS State Level Approach (SLA) for the ROK. The ROK SSAC implemented thenew national safeguards inspection regime on 1 January 2009. This paper shows how the IAEA andthe ROK SSAC applied the IS safeguards approach to nuclear facilities in the ROK, and the IAEA andnational inspection experiences under IS.
